Network groups hard work pays off when Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy signs ban on the sale of baby/children products containing BPA.    Back to list

The NYS Breast Cancer Network has been working on legislation to ban Bisphenol-A (BPA), an ubiquitous endocrine-distrupting chemical, in children’s products.  Low-dose exposure during vulnerable periods of human growth – especially during pre-natal development, early childhood, and puberty-may predispose women and men to breast cancer and other health disorders later in life.  As the Network continues to work towards strong legislation on the state level, Network member organizations Huntington Breast Cancer Action Coalition and Great Neck Breast Cancer Coalition do double duty leading the statewide effort as well as working on a local level in Suffolk County.  Their efforts recently had a great success when Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy announced on April 2, 2009 that he had signed the first in the nation ban on the sale of baby bottles and cups containing Bisphenol-A. BPA.
